9th May'13 - Kargil War Memorial

This is a tribute to our brave Men in Olive Green, who unlike the much hyped about Men in Blue have served the country in ways unparalleled. Whilst the less than dozen and a half Men in Blue have sold their Souls to the Bookies, and yet earned the admiration and love of the billions of Indians, these thousands of Men in Olive Green have silently embraced death in inhospitable conditions and yet gone with a smile - their heads held high, their chests swollen with pride. As one walks the pathway to the memorial, with the tri-colour fluttering on either side, your head automatically bows with respect, lumps form in your throat and tears well up in your eyes, as you read about how each one individually and each company collectively fought with grit to what our shamelessly elected bunch of thieves called a -"skirmish", when it was nothing short of a full-fledged WAR! These men didn't protest at the raw treatment meted out to them, they never asked for awards, land, advertisement contracts, sponsorships, endorsements - atleast they deserved recognition for their efforts. Funny as it may sound, but when there is threat of external aggression, or internal strife, a child stuck in a tube well, a natural disaster of the magnitude that hit Uttaranchal, or terror strikes, it is the Men in Olive Green that are called upon not the Men in Blue, and yet these very Men are never feted once they accomplish their tasks, unlike the Men in Blue for whom parties are held for weeks on end across the length and breadth of this country. Corporates in the name of CSR are spending crores on the Men in Blue, but what about these bravehearts? Is there no CSR of the India Inc. towards the Men in the Armed Forces and their widows and children? Speaks volumes of our hypocrisy!
